The perspective of sexuality differs from one gender to the other, from male to female, and they tend to have different ideas. But is television trying to change this by what they display in their programs and shows?
A research was made to see which gender watched television the most, and the results were that per day women watched 40 more minutes than men. Sexuality is all over television nowadays, and everyone is influenced on their perspective in one way or another. Sexual orientation in women is different from men’s. Males seem to be more categorical in their sexual orientation; they are more likely to be either heterosexual or homosexual. Women, on the other hand, tend to be more flexible, they are more likely than men to fall in the middle of the spectrum.
Television is one of the biggest forms of media when it comes to exposure of sexuality and sexual content. Nearly all of the programs and shows produced nowadays have sexuality, whether it is directly or indirectly. The person watching this show might not have the same idea but will still be influenced in some way. For example, a heterosexual male is watching a show where one of the characters is homosexual, this character and his behaviours will surely have an impact on that individual that is watching, and the ideas and beliefs they had before could change due to what they observed through that program. Women are more likely to be influenced by what they watch on TV, because they are more open and willing to receive new ideas.
To conclude, in our opinion, we believe that everyone is influenced by what they watch, and seeing how much sexuality is being displayed currently, the male and female perspective on this topic is unable to run away from the influence of this massive form of media that is television.
